LAGREE, the body-conditioning machine loved by Hollywood!

When I heard that the crazy –  go go gadget looking machine aka the Lagree Megaformer bench was loved and used by the likes of Kim Kardashian – I was immediately …

As funny looking as the Lagree Megaformer bench may look, it is NOT to be taken lightly.

The Lagree workout story starts with its creator Sebastien Lagree. The french born inventor’s machine is a slick adaptation on the conventional reformer Pilates benches. Unlike its predecessors the Megaformer bench pushes more or less every muscle in your body to its ultimate limit!  It is an intense combination of Pilates, cardio and strength training.

“I am designing devices that integrate strength, endurance, core, cardio, balance, flexibility, coordination as well as meditation, bio-feedback, heightened levels of emotional, spiritual, sexual, mental and tactile awareness. Anything less will sell my students short of their dreams.” – Sebastien Lagree

With studios on both sides of the Atlantic in Toronto, Canada Germany and now London the Lagree brand is one that is defiantly catching the attention of many. Fans of the workout include an array of  Hollywood A- lists celebs. The likes of Nicole Kidman, Calvin Harris and Friends Actresses Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox have all taken a tremendous liking to the workout.

I have never hated someone more in my life (Sebastien Lagree). I’m actually still sore. I’m kidding. He’s fantastic…It was not your normal Pilates. It was, “work your ass off”. – Courtney Cox

I booked myself onto their 1.15 pm Lagree M3: Beginners class designed to take first timers through the basics of the machine and how to safely use it.

Their London studio is located on Lamb’s Passage between Finsbury Square and the Barbican. The studios are fully equipped with male and female changing rooms and a small pop up shop in their reception selling various active wear brands. Their one and only workout space/studio holds 16 M3S Megaformers. The studio has a relaxing ambient created by the sexy purple mood lighting which fills the space. I entered the well air-conditioned studio and to my amazement the instructor had Warren G and Nate Dogg “Regulate” blazing through the speakers followed by some 2Pac and then Biggie! As a HUGE 90s rap/rnb fan this was literally music to my ears! The combination  of the lighting and West coast 90s music had be feeling as though I was in a trendy celeb studio in LA, with a smile on my face, I was ready to begin my swanky Lagree workout!

The group classes began with an introduction to the machine and then began with a sequences of warm up moves using our Megaformer benches. The main body of the class included a series of slow 4 second lunges, planks and various arm and abdominal workouts. The machine has three components: the front and the back platforms, which are sturdy, and the carriage which moves between the two. The resistance provided by the Megaformer can be easily set to your particular needs in moments so you’re able to work to your own comfort. Trust me, you don’t have to be a Pilates pro by any means to try Lagree out. However this muscle-shaking workout is definitely no walk in the park, with each move proving more difficult than the last. By the end of the 45min you feel as though you’ve lost the ability to walk but it’s a satisfying feeling nonetheless! My trainer,  Jac Liang really put me through my paces, she was attentive, friendly and extremely encouraging! I’ve been back twice since my first visit in February. I think it’s safe to say that I’ve definitely become addicted to feeling that Lagree burn!
